Grain sits idle as demand overloads railways

The state of America's rail system is truly amazing. My kids have probably never seen a new locomotive. I don't recall seeing one in the past twenty years.

A week or so ago, I was stopped for a train and noticed the second engine had at one point been on fire, burning the paint off the mid-section. The fire had been extinguished and the engine put back in service with no attempt to paint the blackened metal. Disgraceful.

There are several tracks in the area in such bad condition trains are limited to twenty miles per hour. You can see the trains moving along slowly with the cars rocking back and forth.

If your going to ask retirees for United Way pledges...

You could at least check if the retirees are alive before sending out letters.

The Williams company sent dad a letter this week asking for United Way contributions.

Dad has been dead for 14 months. Sheesh!

I'm tempted to check the box "No, I prefer not to give this year" and send it back to them.
